Foundation and Individual Donations: THANK YOU!

Avenues for Justice

Thanks to You, Avenues for Justice

Can Continue to Work with 275 Youth

Alternate text

Thanks to you, Avenues for Justice (AFJ) is still operating and helping NYC's youth. Our courthouse offices and community centers in Harlem and the Lower East Side are still closed, but with your help, we moved our programs online and currently work remotely with 275 quarantined youthful offenders and at-risk youth.

Thanks to you, our staff and youth are currently working together via remote conferencing for group sessions, tutoring, workshops, online job coaching with volunteers from First Republic Bank, digital literacy classes and OSHA 30 hour construction safety certification classes.

Many of our youth are able to join online classes because of your donations. As soon as our doors closed on March 13th, we purchased technology and laptops, and quickly delivered them to the homes of our participants. Many kept up with their online courses through the NYC Department of Education portal because you donated your time to tutor them.

Here’s what that means in terms of IMPACT:

AFJ has worked with 331 youth during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • 236 youthful offenders
  • 39 at-risk youth receiving long-term prevention services
  • 54 receiving referrals or short-term help.

We’ve delivered laptops, groceries and supplies to over 130 homes. We’ve launched Digital Literacy classes, Job Prep tutoring and are opening OSHA 30-hour construction safety classes, with additional classes coming soon.

With every donation, a youth gained a foothold in staying out of jail, receiving our services for a year, and gaining the necessary skills to start a new life.

We invite all of you - as soon as NYC reopens - to visit our headquarters at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse building and meet our staff and our youth. You can join us inside the courtroom and see what it’s like to advocate for a young person so that they do not end up in jail, you can visit our community centers to see how our youth receive the necessary services that they require, and you can continue to support us to ensure that our youth get a second chance at life.

We, here at Avenues for Justice, appreciate YOUR SUPPORT!
